Hey past, present and (hopefully) future Team Pepin members! : )

NECPAD is hosting its 5th annual Fast Feet for Phreedom 5k after a couple years break. Matty, baby Pickle Pepin and I will be walking as long as Pickle is still snug as a bug and not making his or her debut before then. Will you join us?

It has been an incredible year transitioning off PEG-PAL in order to pursue getting pregnant and then getting pregnant 2 months later! Being back on diet has come with its ups and downs, that is for sure. Being on both ends of the spectrum in the past year (off diet still in research study and on PEG-PAL and on diet with strict monitoring and meal planning, etc) has reminded me how crucial science, research and our medical professionals are to our community, families and kids, men and women with PKU's success. We are on the brink of more and more groundbreaking research and innovations coming down the pike line and I am again humbled to be able to have been a part of several studies over my lifetime - and now as a new mom-to-be I realize that there is still more work to be done. Thankfully, with an amazing team (and specifically the BEST Dietitian), my levels have been under control and, so far, I have had a healthy pregnancy! That said, it hasn't been easy but one day we may have more options for pregnancy and breast feeding and I am eager to see where we go and what we learn in the coming years and decades.

I hope you will consider walking or running with us, or donating to this cause near and dear to our hearts! Love to you all! ~Huntie, Matty and Pickle Pepin

About Fast Feet for Phreedom 5K
Fast feet for Phreedom is an annual 5k walk/run event to kick off National PKU Awareness month. Phenylketonuria, or PKU, is a rare metabolic disorder that effects ~1 in 14,000 people born in the United States. Each year we celebrate National PKU Awareness month by gathering families, friends and community members together for a fun and competitive morning. Money raised supports PKU organizations at a local and national level as well as ground breaking PKU reserach to help one day find a cure or "PHREEDOM" from PKU!
